2020 Ellie Awards

Award season continues with the 2020 Ellie Awards for American magazines in March, and I’m excited to say that I narrated 4 of the feature story nominees!

First up, the New York Times Magazine did an amazing piece on travel host Rick Steves, and his love of Europe and of weeeeeed. Reading aloud his “high thoughts” journal was a true highlight of 2019. “Rick Steves Wants to Set You Free” was written by Sam Anderson.

Next, “Angels in East Texas” by Wes Ferguson is about staging “Angels in America” in a small Texas town in the 90s. This was for Texas Monthly.

Mother Jones did a shocking expose titled “Inside the US Marshals’ Secretive, Deadly Detention Empire,” by Seth Freed Wessler.

Finally, ProPublica reported an incredible series on recent disasters in the US Navy, including “Fight the Ship” by T. Christian Miller, Megan Rose and Robert Faturechi

Thanks to the Audm team for the opportunity to perform these stories for audio. You can check out so many of the nominees on the Audm app, and it’s great way to support excellent journalism.

Passable in Pink – New Audible Original

I’m so excited to announce our next movie. In audio.

Author Mike Sacks and I took you back to the ’70s with Stinker Lets Loose! Now, we’re returning to the John Hughes movies of the ’80s with… PASSABLE IN PINK.

I directed and co-star in this Audible Original production, starring Gillian Jacobs, Adam Scott, and Bobby Moynihan as lovestruck suburban teens, Bob Odenkirk and Laraine Newman as Gillian’s parents, and Judd Nelson as the high school janitor.

Julie Klausner, Rhea Seehorn, James Adomian, Sasheer Zamata, Joel Kim Booster, Justine Bateman, Mark Gagliardi, Jessica McKenna, Justin Michael, Julia Whelan, Tara Sands, and Mike Sacks round out an incredible cast. Emily Woo Zeller is our narrator.

There’s an all-new original soundtrack, too – an 11-song “lost” 80s LP from Mark Rozzo, featuring members of The Psychedelic Furs and Dexy’s Midnight Runners.

Every person in this production has been a true joy to work with, and Mike is a brilliant writer and awesome collaborator. I’m so excited for you to hear them all soon. My thanks also to the incredible production team at Audible – including Morgan Jones, Matt Beagle, Jake Young, and Molly Bolten.

PASSABLE IN PINK releases November 14th, and you can pre-order it today at audible.com/pink.
